Caitlin & Rodney’s Engagement Session at Delaware’s Winterthur Gardens

During their recent visit home to the US from their “Army Home” in Germany, Caitlin & Rodney met up with several of us for their engagement session at Winterthur Gardens. This is the same location where Caitlin & Rodney will be getting married this summer. So, we all had a chance to kind of scope out the grounds together and get an idea of where we may like to shoot some photos on their wedding day in August. Of course with the temperature being in the 30s and snow being on the ground we weren’t able to get the EXACT feel for their wedding day, but at least we were able to spend some time together with our winning couple and shoot some fantastic engagement photos for them as well.

Don’t miss Caitlin & Rodney telling the story of how they met and fell in love in the video at the bottom of this post! Enjoy your engagement photos guys. Lots of love from the Philadelphia Wedding Project.

March 8, 2010 - 10:05 am Caitlin & Rodney - What awesome shots! We all had a blast shooting at Winterthur! We look forward to shooting photos in the summer with all the flowers and trees full of leaves! Thanks for the memories! - Caitlin & Rodney

Caitlin and Rodney meet Beautiful Blooms

When Caitlin and Rodney met with Donna O’Brien of Beautiful Blooms, Joy Moody and Ryan Estes were there as well. As this couple meets with various wedding professionals interested in helping them create a beautiful day, it has been incredibly fun and interesting for us, the photographers, to get a glimpse behind the scenes of other parts of the wedding industry. Donna is a top-notch floral designer, and her company Beautiful Blooms is known in Philadelphia for creating eye-poppingly gorgeous and creative arrangements. Here, Caitlin and Rodney, along with their planner Nicole and Caitlin’s sister, speak with Donna about their vision for their wedding. Can I (Ryan) just say that I’m amazed with the amount of talent and skill that goes into creating a comprehensive set of bouquets, centerpieces, bouttonieres, and other arrangements for an event like this!

March 1, 2010 - 12:54 pm Donna O'Brien - We had such a great time with Caitlin and Rodney when they came to visit our studio. It was really great to have them in our large 6500 square foot studio because every time they mentioned something they liked I was able to run back and show them the item. We have a huge inventory of product right at our finger tips. We look forward to the opportunity to work with them on their wedding.

Caitlin and Rodney meet Moda Botanica

Since Caitlin and Rodney were only home during the holidays, they had to schedule all of their vendor meetings during this time. Sofia Negron met up with Caitlin, Rodney, her sister, Allie and their planner, Nicole for a floral meeting with Moda Botanica. It was actually very interesting being a fly on the wall during their floral meeting. Caitlin and Rodney brought swatches and photos of their ideas. I liked watching Judith and Armas from Moda talk about and develop different ideas for their centerpieces and bouquets. I never realized all the different elements that go into designing a centerpiece. They went through books, lots of photos and pulled out different elements so they could visualize what they were talking about. I have to say Caitlin has great taste and I am really anxious to see who she chooses to do the floral design for the wedding.

Allie and Nicole laughing it up. I feel like personality counts just as much as talent. Getting along with your vendors is key to success.

Moda’s third partner, Bailey, was there making flowers for an event they had later. It’s kind of cool getting to see the inner workings of a floral design studio while having a meeting. Brings home that Moda is a floral design studio where you get to meet and work with the designers and not a salesman.

Caitlin and Rodney at Gibraltar Gardens

We are so glad that we finally got to meet Caitlin and Rodney over the holidays. Since their stay in the states was so short, we crammed in as much stuff as possible. We had some time to kill between appointments, so Geoff and I (Sofia) stopped off at Gibraltar Gardens with Caitlin and Rodney for some intimate engagement photos. Gibraltar Gardens has a really beautiful garden in the spring and summer but they also have this old dilapidated house that has great textures and walls. We had lots of fun with them and as you can see they are total naturals!

Caitlin’s hair trial at Town and Country Salon

Caitlin & Rodney being soldiers in the US Army currently stationed in Germany don’t often get time to be at home with family and friends. But this past holiday season found Caitlin and Rodney at home with her family in Newark Deleware. Of course with limited time in the states Caitlin had to fit in A LOT of wedding planning and organizing during the brief time that she and Rodney were home. And of course, the photographers of the PWP were on hand to document several of the important wedding related meetings that Caitlin had scheduled.

First up was Caitlin’s hair trial appointment at Town and Country Salon in Newark Deleware. Jenn Childress and Pete Malone were on hand to photograph Caitlin’s hair trial and *shhhh* Caitlin’s dress fitting. Yes, we did see it. Yes, we did photograph Caitlin in her dress as designer, Elaine M. Morgan did some minor alterations. Caitlin looked stunning in her dress but that’s all we are allowed to reveal!!!

PWP slideshow of recent work – the last weddings of 2009

The holiday season is over and with that brings all of us a much needed break. So as we finish up album orders and meet with new brides, we leave a few images from each of our last weddings of the year. Enjoy the slideshow of recent work.

Sofia Negron: Real Wedding – Nicole and Caleb

Nicole and Caleb had an amazing day. The most important thing for me at a wedding is the connection I have with the couple and their friends and family. One thing I noticed with this wedding was how much emotion was shared and captured. I believe it was because Nicole and Caleb trusted me completely and let themselves be open and honest.

Another reason I enjoyed this wedding was all the business partners that I got to work with. Judith Campbell from Campbell Studios was the planner and kept everything running smoothly. She had a huge job because the ceremony was in the morning at Christ Church, then a cocktail hour at the Arden Theatre followed by carriage rides and walking tours for guests, an out of town accapella group, another cocktail hour and the reception. I am tired just thinking about it. Beke Beau, make-up artist extraordinaire, made Nicole gorgeous. Ilonka Comstock did the flowers and Kris Sumey of Event Fx did all the lighting at the College of Physicians.

Pete Malone – Real Wedding, Normandy Farms

Robin & Craig were married this past October at Normandy Farms in Blue Bell, PA. It was yet another rainy wedding day. Although this time we all got lucky enough to squeeze in some outdoor photos just before it started to pour. Congratulations to you both, Robin & Craig. It was a pleasure to be a part if your wedding celebration. Welcome back from Hawaii and best of luck in San Francisco!

Much thanks to my fellow Philadelphia Wedding Project partner, Geoff Horowitz for shooting with me. This is one of his beautiful images.

Philadelphia Wedding Project celebrates our winners!

The Philadephia Wedding Project recently got together with the families of our winners Caitlin & Rodney to celebrate the fact that we’ll be shooting their wedding! It was a wonderful evening with an all-star cast of players making it happen. Many thanks to Stephen Starr for graciously hosting the event at his Washington Square restaurant and providing food & beverages.

Erin Proud of Proud to Plan put in a TON of work behind the scenes, making sure things flowed smoothly. Thanks Erin! In addition, Synergetic Sounds provided music and lighting, and floral arrangements were done by Beautiful Blooms and MODA Botanica. The gorgeous signage was courtesy of Two Paper Dolls, a table runner was donated by Customized Wedding Creations, and Dave Williams of DVideography filmed the evening.

Big thanks as well go out to The Flour Pot for the PWP cookies and Cakes By Suzy for the PWP cake! Last but not least, we’re very grateful to Philadelphia Magazine for sponsoring this whole project, and for providing the favor bags, and to Nicole Brennan of Lovely Girls Events (Caitlin & Rodney’s wedding planner) for providing signs for the photobook and candles.

Your hard work does not go unnoticed… thank you all for contributing to a lovely evening.

Caitlin and Rodney tell us how they feel

We are very excited to work with Caitlin and Rodney on this project. We asked them to share with us about how they felt when they won and what it means to them to have the six of us on board for their wedding. Here is what Caitlin had to say…

“October 19th was one of the slowest days ever. If we hadn’t known we were one of the finalists we, well I, wouldn’t of been refreshing the web page every five minutes or so. Here in Iraq the days have been getting slower and slower , as we wrap things up in preparation for our redeployment to Germany, land of the beer! When I got that email at 7:00pm Iraq time, so noon east coast time, I had to re-read it three times. I couldn’t wait for Rodney to get back from mission so I could tell him the wonderful and exciting news. I’d like to say we celebrated by throwing back a few cold ones or going out to dinner, but that isn’t the case. Instead we shared the wonderful news with the people that mean the most to us, our family and friends. Never in our wildest dreams did we think we would ever win anything like this. We are still in awe today when we wrap our heads around it. This definitely gives us something to look forward to and one less thing to worry about in the wedding planning process. The photography for our wedding is extremely important to me because I want to cherish our memories forever. These are the photos that will be passed down to our children and grandchildren. Looking through all 6 photographers work, I knew this was exactly what we were looking for. This is a unique opportunity to capture the precious moments that include all of our family, which can be hard as we continue to grow. This will be one of the few times Rodney’s family and my family will be able to meet on such a grand scale. We look forward to the upcoming months and locking in the remaining details that will make this the wedding of my dreams.”

November 7, 2009 - 8:25 pm Béke Beau - I consider the PWP a great success, because it's made two people so very happy...
