When Caitlin and Rodney met with Donna O’Brien of Beautiful Blooms, Joy Moody and Ryan Estes were there as well. As this couple meets with various wedding professionals interested in helping them create a beautiful day, it has been incredibly fun and interesting for us, the photographers, to get a glimpse behind the scenes of other parts of the wedding industry. Donna is a top-notch floral designer, and her company Beautiful Blooms is known in Philadelphia for creating eye-poppingly gorgeous and creative arrangements. Here, Caitlin and Rodney, along with their planner Nicole and Caitlin’s sister, speak with Donna about their vision for their wedding. Can I (Ryan) just say that I’m amazed with the amount of talent and skill that goes into creating a comprehensive set of bouquets, centerpieces, bouttonieres, and other arrangements for an event like this!

Since Caitlin and Rodney were only home during the holidays, they had to schedule all of their vendor meetings during this time. Sofia Negron met up with Caitlin, Rodney, her sister, Allie and their planner, Nicole for a floral meeting with Moda Botanica. It was actually very interesting being a fly on the wall during their floral meeting. Caitlin and Rodney brought swatches and photos of their ideas. I liked watching Judith and Armas from Moda talk about and develop different ideas for their centerpieces and bouquets. I never realized all the different elements that go into designing a centerpiece. They went through books, lots of photos and pulled out different elements so they could visualize what they were talking about. I have to say Caitlin has great taste and I am really anxious to see who she chooses to do the floral design for the wedding.

Judith going over some ideas and ways Caitlin and Rodney’s vision can be done

A few sneak peeks of colors and ideas Caitlin and Rodney have

Armas going over details.

Allie and Nicole laughing it up. I feel like personality counts just as much as talent. Getting along with your vendors is key to success.

Judith showing Caitlin a wedding they had just done for another bride.

Moda’s third partner, Bailey, was there making flowers for an event they had later. It’s kind of cool getting to see the inner workings of a floral design studio while having a meeting. Brings home that Moda is a floral design studio where you get to meet and work with the designers and not a salesman.

Donna O’Brien, Owner and Creator at Beautiful Blooms, shares her expression, everyday, through the Beautiful Blooms of the world. In her own words………

Beautiful Blooms was born in 2002 out of the garage of my townhouse. I can’t believe how long ago that was but it was so worth it. I was actually working in Fashion Product Development for Liz Claiborne when I started taking floral design classes in Europe and also NYC. Every time I went on a business trip to London I took another class from Paula Pryke and Jane Packer. I just loved it! One day I decided hey let me put a website up and see if anyone likes my work. People responded and the business was off and running. Six months later I did quit my full time job but for a while I was doing both jobs. It was a lot of long days and nights but creating beautiful floral designs and decor was so worth it.

Now the business is 7 years old and I have a full amazing team on board. I also opened the Beautiful Blooms Boutique in April of this year. That was a long time dream and it is really working. I love what I do and the magic is making our clients happy and creating many types of decor from traditional, to exciting to modern to inspirational. We constantly push ourselves here to use the most beautiful blooms in the most amazing designs. We create simple designs for baby showers to the most elaborate designs for weddings! I can’t believe what an exciting path my life has taken.

And, as someone who is always working with people embarking on a new path, I love the idea of The Philadelphia Wedding Project. We are excited to be offering 10% off a full wedding to the winning couple.

With thirty years of combined experience in the floral, horticulture and event industries Armas Koehler, Bailey Hale and Judith Campbell are MODA botanica. After collaborating on each others projects for the past four years, these floral designers made their partnership official by launching a sleek studio in Center City in 2008. Their dedication to being an art based floral studio has enabled them to cater to a clientele craving designs that are on the cutting edge while still reflecting their own personal sense of style. They glean inspiration from everything and anything around them: urban living, sculpture, nature – it all has something to offer and they showcase it. Setting the bar for floral design in Philadelphia, they were the only newcomer to be invited to the 2009 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show as a Major Exhibitor and captured the title of ‘Best in Show: Display Garden Floral’ as well as ‘Best Achievement in Modern Floral Display.’ Their designs have been featured in Modern Bride Philadelphia, Philadelphia Wedding and The Knot magazines.
